4K HDR casting questions

Yes. LocalCast fully supports 4K UHD streaming with HDR10 and HDR10+ metadata. If your casting device and TV support 4K HDR (such as Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast with Google TV 4K, or NVIDIA Shield TV Pro), LocalCast will deliver the full resolution and dynamic range of your source file.

4K HDR casting works with Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast with Google TV 4K, NVIDIA Shield TV and Shield TV Pro, and any Android TV or Google TV device that supports 4K output. Samsung and LG smart TVs with DLNA also support 4K streaming from LocalCast. Your TV must have a 4K HDR-capable panel for the full benefit.

For smooth 4K HDR streaming, we recommend a local Wi-Fi network that can sustain at least 50 Mbps throughput between your phone (or NAS) and the casting device. A 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection is strongly recommended. If streaming from a NAS, a wired Ethernet connection to your router gives the most reliable results for high bitrate files.

Yes. LocalCast handles large MKV files with 4K resolution, high bitrate video tracks (including HEVC/H.265), and multi-channel audio. Files of 20 GB, 40 GB, or even larger Blu-ray remuxes can be streamed as long as your local network has sufficient bandwidth. LocalCast streams the file directly without re-encoding.
